Slitting Punch or Hot Sett
The Slitting Punch and the Hot Sett is, in my opinion, the first two tools needed by the Smith for the continuation of making all their other tools. The Slitting punch is the primary tool for making the eye (for the wooded handle) in the tooling such as small hand hammers, swages, fullers, set hammers and the list goes on. The Hot Sett as also an integral tool in the cutting of hot stock which is a common operation performed by the Smith. All tooling in this class is forged by W302 or commonly known as H13. Hardening and Tempering will be performed on this tooling.
